March Madness For Men's Health Screening Offered To Community

March Madness Men's Health Screenings to Feature Texas Stars Hockey Players and Final Four Tickets

Cedar Park, TX (March 10, 2010) - Cedar Park Regional Medical Center (CPRMC) invites you to join us for a free men’s health screening on Sunday, March 14th which will feature autographs by the Texas Stars hockey team as well as a chance to win two tickets to the Final Four basketball tournament. Women are encouraged to register the men in their lives for this important screening and will receive free massages and smoothies at the event.

"Prostate cancer is the number one cancer diagnosis in men in the United States,” said Urology Austin’s Carl Bischoff, M.D. “Studies have shown that some younger men are diagnosed with higher grade/stage prostate cancer, which, if detected later may be lethal. It is recommended that men receive a baseline PSA at age 40 and pursue yearly screening with a prostate exam and PSA after thorough discussion of the risks and benefits of prostate cancer screening. Prostate cancer is a heterogeneous disease and no single treatment can be ascribed to every patient diagnosed."

One in six American men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, making men 35% more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer than women are to be diagnosed with breast cancer. In fact, prostate cancer is the most common non-skin cancer in America. Early detection is the key to surviving this disease, but often there are no warning signs. That is why Cedar Park Regional Medical Center and Carl Bischoff, M.D. of Urology Austin have teamed up to offer free health screenings to help detect if you are at risk.
