March 18, 2014 — An eight-bed pediatric care unit operated by medical professionals from Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas is opening at Cedar Park Regional Medical Center.
The unit, called Dell Children’s at Cedar Park Regional Medical Center, will be located on the third floor of the hospital, thanks to a strategic alliance with Seton Healthcare Family, which owns and operates Dell Children’s Medical Center of Austin. “I am excited to bring the premier provider of pediatric services of Central Texas to the campus of Cedar Park Regional Medical Center,” said Brad Holland, Cedar Park Regional Medical Center’s chief executive officer . “This strategic alliance is a defining moment in our organization’s history as we are now able to provide inpatient care for our community’s most valuable assets- our children.”
According to the 2010 census, 52.8 percent of Cedar Park households have children under the age of 18. Dell Children’s at Cedar Park regional Medical Center will offer inpatient hospital care to children, whose families previously would need to drive outside the community for these services. It will provide care for children with diagnoses that include asthma, bronchiolitis, cellulitis, croup, dehydration, gastroenteritis, neonatal fever, and pneumonia. “When possible, close to home is easier for families and better for patients,” said Dr. Meena Iyer, MD, Dell Children’s pediatric medical director. “Our Dell Children’s team of pediatric hospitalists, nurses, and child life specialists is renowned for the support provided to patients and families, and the better health outcomes that result.”
Care for pediatric patients at Cedar Park Regional Medical Center will be family-centered, with accommodations for parents in the pediatric rooms. There also will be a fully equipped playroom, where child life specialists provide care that helps children to cope successfully with hospitalization.
