Cedar Park Regional Medical Center Earns Comprehensive Bariatric Surgery Center Accreditation from the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program
6/30/2017
June 26, 2017— Cedar Park Regional Medical Center (CPRMC) has been accredited as a Comprehensive Center by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), a joint program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).
The accreditation means CPRMC has demonstrated its commitment to providing and supporting quality improvement and patient safety efforts for metabolic and bariatric surgery patients. As an accredited program, CPRMC has shown that it meets the needs of patients by providing the highest quality, multidisciplinary, patient-centered care.
The program accredits bariatric surgery centers that have undergone an independent, voluntary, and rigorous peer evaluation in accordance with nationally recognized bariatric surgical standards to improve patient outcomes and long-term success.
“Our accreditation demonstrates the commitment to provide outstanding support and care for our patients, both pre- and post-operatively,” said Brad Holland, chief executive officer of CPRMC. “Our team of surgeons and other specialized
bariatric team members have worked diligently to create a nationally recognized care experience and the highest quality outcomes for patients.”
In the United States, around 15 million people suffer from severe obesity, according to the National Institutes for Health, and the numbers continue to increase. Obesity increases the risks of morbidity and mortality because of the diseases and conditions that are commonly associated with it, such as type II diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease. Metabolic and bariatric surgical procedures have been proven to be effective in the reduction of comorbid conditions related to severe obesity.
According to CPRMC’s Bariatric Program medical director, Nicole Basa, MD, “I am so proud to have helped create and lead our Bariatric Surgical Program at CPRMC since its inception in 2008. We provide exceptional care and support for bariatric patients through our surgical care, our bariatric coordinator, dietitians, psychological services, and support programs. It has required steadfast focus and dedication to receive the accreditation as a Comprehensive Center, demonstrating our excellence by the MBSAQIP. This accreditation will help the community know what an outstanding program we offer.”
CPRMC is located in the greater Austin area and offers regular seminars on weight loss surgery. For more information, call the Bariatric Program at (512) 528-7317 or visit cedarparkregional.com/bariatrics.
